Proven: Sustainable.

Presenter: Trygve Hoff, P.E., ENV SP

Webinar Description

Explore the proven and undeniably sustainable characteristics of concrete pipe and box culverts. As the most resilient storm drainage material, it not only supports robust infrastructure but also advances environmental stewardship. This presentation will highlight concrete pipe’s embodiment of the principles of sustainability through its production from natural, locally sourced, and recycled materials, demonstrating a firm commitment to supporting local economies and embracing the circular economy.

Participants will explore the distinctions between high-value sustainability, exemplified by concrete pipe, and low-value sustainability, like that of a plastic straw. We will discuss how the impressive 100+ year lifespan of concrete pipe not only ensures service for current and future generations but also exemplifies a model for sustainable infrastructure that minimizes waste, resource use, and long-term environmental impact.

Furthermore, the webinar reviews how concrete pipe minimizes ecological footprints by producing minimal waste and being fully recyclable. The resilience and durability of concrete pipe plays a pivotal role in its sustainability and its ability to withstand and recover from natural disasters significantly reducing the need for replacements or repairs, thereby conserving resources and reducing environmental impact over time.

Key Takeaways

  • Understand the environmental benefits of concrete pipe and how it supports local economies and contributes to the principles of the circular economy
  • Explore the lifecycle and recyclability of concrete pipe and how its durability and 100% recyclability reduces its ecological footprint
  • Examine concrete pipe’s resilience and how its ability to withstand severe environmental conditions minimizes the need for repairs and replacements
  • Distinguish between high-value and low-value sustainability and the significance of both
