This class discusses the possibility of flotation of buried drainage pipe systems. I will be providing information about why this is a timely subject. Buoyancy will be explained and how it can affect buried pipelines. Two accepted methods of accounting for buoyant forces in pipeline designs including factors of safety will be presented. Finally, I will provide some example situations.
